La Lonja de los Mercaderes de València

DESCRIPTION:

THE VISIT WILL START AT 16:00. THE MEETING POINT WILL BE «CARRER DE LA LLOTJA, 2, 46001 VALÈNCIA».

La Lonja de València, a building celebrated and admired throughout the ages, has always served as an assembly hall and showcase for the city. In the 18th century, Antonio Ponz called it «a truly magnificent building :::the best in Gothic form»; Vicente Noguera in 1783 described it as «a majestic model of architecture, although carved in Gothic taste, everything breathes accuracy, proportion, elevation and grandeur».

La Lonja was established as the palace of commerce and the image of the city.

Pere Compte, heir to the great Valencian school of architecture and sculpture of the 15th century, took charge of the work, in which the master builder Joan Yvarra collaborated in the first stage.

Work began in 1483.RER
