short bio

Julian has been the President of IIC for the last 5 years. He holds a theology degree and trained as a furniture conservator, working in London and museums in Sydney before establishing ICS, a national private practice in Australia,  which he still runs.  Julian was part of the working group that established the joint IIC/ICOM-CC Environmental Guidelines Declaration in 2014. He has continued to be closely involved in advocating for and establishing sustainable practices for conservators, and more broadly for small museums in the face of climate change.  He is passionate about encouraging conservators to use their knowledge and networks to speak out on sustainability matters.
